How to Vet an Overseas Sportswear Manufacturer

Most buyers start a manufacturer search with price, because it's the easiest number to compare across a spreadsheet of quotes. It's also the least predictive number when it comes to whether your order actually ships on time, in spec, and without a defect rate that eats your margin.

The stronger signals are procedural: does the manufacturer confirm a specification in writing before production begins? Do they describe a real inspection process, with named stages, rather than a general assurance of 'quality first'? Can they tell you what documentation you'll receive, and when?

Ask for specifics, not adjectives. A manufacturer who can walk you through their actual production stages — not a marketing summary of them — is telling you something concrete about how disciplined their operation really is.

It's also worth asking how they'd handle a defect found during final inspection. A vague answer here is often more informative than the sales pitch that preceded it.
